About MND

There is no cure.

Today 6 people will be diagnosed with MND in the United Kingdom and today another 6 people will succumb to their battle with MND. Tomorrow will be the same story. At any one time around 5,000 adults are suffering in the UK with MND.

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It usually attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work. MND does not usually affect the person’s senses such as sight, hearing, touch and feeling. It leaves people locked in a failing body, unable to move, eventually talk and ultimately breathe.

It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within 2 years of diagnosis. A person’s lifetime risk of developing MND is around 1 in 300. It kills almost 2,200 people each year in the UK. Ways to donate We have set up a registered charity in the UK and USA and you can donate here and here.
